Dr. Shawna Green
As a chiropractor and mother of two small boys, I knew I had to prioritize strength training into my daily routine to not only avoid injury at work but to also balance my body and mind. When I found Create Balance, it was apparent to me in a short period of time that this form of exercise ticked each of these boxes! What I expected was to strengthen my core and improve my flexibility, however, Pilates has also given me improved balance, strength, coordination and an amazing outlet for stress relief!
After finishing my Honours undergraduate degree in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa, I went on to pursue my Chiropractic education at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto where I graduated in 2004. In addition to chiropractic care, I also integrate Acupuncture and myofascial release technique into most of my treatments. It is a most natural fit to also add the active exercise component of Pilates into my repertoire as well!
From the perspective of a wellness and rehabilitative health professional, I know how hard it can be to exercise after an injury or if you live with chronic pain. Pilates may be an excellent way to begin your journey toward improved mobility, decreased pain and improved mental wellness via the positive effects of proper body movement. As I have been integrating many Pilates exercises into the active rehabilitative aspect of my patient’s care, I have found they often recover quickly and pay more attention to their daily posture habits.
Teaching Pilates at Create Balance has been an unforeseen delight for me. I feel so privileged to be part of a community committed to exercise that is truly a positive experience for both your body and mind. Carving out that small space in my schedule for exercise that I love has made me healthier and stronger and I hope I can help to share that feeling with others as well!
